 CITY PROFILE
Adjacent to the San Francisco International Airport and located in the heart of San Mateo County, Millbrae is gently cradled in the sun-warmed hills that separate the Pacific Ocean from the San Francisco Bay. Major freeways border both its eastern and western boundaries, making Millbrae easily accessible from all parts of the Bay Area. Many hillside homes enjoy beautiful bay views. Well-cared for middle-class neighborhoods, twelve local parks and the Green Hills Country Club add to the charm of the residential community.

Millbrae's economic community is a vital mix of retail, shopping, restaurants, service businesses, hotels and public services. The BART/SFO Extension opened in the summer of 2003. To take advantage of the extension, the city has adopted the Millbrae Station Area Specific Plan in order to attract hotel, office, retail and housing development to the area around the Millbrae BART station.

The BART Millbrae Station is the only Intermodal rail connection west of the Mississippi, creating the first regional rail system in the Bay Area. This unique station allows BART, CalTrain and Sam Trans to connect under one roof, thereby maximizing regional travel options to passengers in the Bay Area.

Located immediately North of the Millbrae Overpass, and west of US Highway 101, the Station may be reached by car at the intersection of Millbrae Avenue and Rollins Road, and also via California Drive. The Millbrae Station's concourse connects the East side of the station to SamTrans buses, "kiss-and-ride" drop-offs and the on-site parking facilities for 3,000 vehicles. Pedestrian and bicycle access is available from both the east and west sides of the station. Bicycle lockers and racks are provided at both sides of the station.

By the year 2010, BART patronage at the Millbrae Station is expected to climb to 33,000. with Caltrain gaining approximately 8,900 new riders. This transit center will eliminate approximately 10,000 daily vehicle trips to the airport, lessening traffic congestion and air pollution. The Millbrae Intermodal Station now provides local residents and travelers with expanded transit operations, improved service and links to the Bay Area's growing population centers.
